Organic Wines

The Terra Remota winery was founded in 1999, when the Bournazeau Florensa family acquired a property covering 40 hectares located in the far northeast of the Iberian Peninsula, in the Alta Empordà region, in Girona province, and falling within the DO Empordà.

This is a territory with a granitic soil, known as albero, which offers very interesting possibilities for viticulture, as the soil is not fertile and furthermore it facilitates good drainage. Granite is a light-coloured and therefore quite cold stone which guarantees balanced pH and acidity.

A total of 6 hectares of Garnacha Tinta (red Grenache) and 1.5 hectares of Garnacha Blanca (white Grenache), along with varieties that have a long tradition in France, and have proven to adapt well in this DO, such as 6 hectares of Syrah, 6 hectares of Cabernet Sauvignon and 1 hectare of Chardonnay. In an experimental phase, a hectare of Tempranillo was also planted as was a parcel of 0.8 hectare of Chenin Blanc.

The vinification of each parcel is carried out in small stainless steel tanks and in 55-hectolitre wooden vats, which are used subsequently in the process of malolactic fermentation, and also for the ageing of certain batches. The ageing room contains 225-litre barriques and 500-litre casks, to adapt the ageing to each type of wine: transfers from one recipient to another are reduced to a minimum in order to achieve maximum quality.

The characteristics of the land on which Terra Remota lies, combined with the professional experience of its owners, have determined the character of the wines produced, with priority given to smoothness and elegance, while excess body and tannins are avoided. The names of the main range of Terra Remota wines are based on the concept “Camino” (way, path, journey), in a clear allusion to the well-known poem by Antonio Machado. As in the poem, at Terra Remota there is a commitment to a work ethic, where respect, tenacity and perseverance prevail, as essential values for achieving the objectives proposed.
